Three individuals were apprehended and remanded into police custody on charges of impersonating police officers during the district assembly and unit committee elections in Asawase on Tuesday.
The suspects, identified as 37-year-old Zakari Yakubu, 24-year-old Godsway Fiakodzo, and 26-year-old Ibrahim Zack, were reportedly patrolling Sawaba New Site polling stations A and B, posing as officers overseeing the electoral process.
Police investigations revealed that the accused were attired in black outfits, complete with bulletproof vests, and were equipped with pepper sprays, jack knives, and five pairs of handcuffs.
“Upon suspicion of impersonation, our officers acted swiftly to apprehend the three individuals,” stated Inspector Frank Osae, the lead investigator.
Two motorcycles, allegedly belonging to the accused, were impounded during the arrest.
Inspector Frank Osae and his superiors ensured a prompt court appearance for the suspects.
“The trio has been charged with falsely pretending to be public officers,” said the prosecution.
Appearing before the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court, the accused were remanded into police custody.
The case has been adjourned to January 6, 2024.
