The Minister for the Interior, Muhammed Muntaka, has announced an immediate ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons in Walewale and its surrounding areas.
A statement published on the Interior Ministry’s website on February 15 confirmed the decision, emphasizing that any individual found with weapons will face arrest and prosecution.
“… there is a total ban on all persons in Walewale and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” the Minister stated.
Additionally, on the advice of the North East Regional Security Council, the government has imposed a curfew on Walewale from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective Saturday, February 15, 2025. The curfew was enacted through an Executive Instrument to help restore calm in the area.
