Heritage Month Sunyani men abhor makeup, prefers natural beauty  

Some men in , the Bono Regional capital, have expressed their disapproval of the practice of contemporary Ghanaian women using makeup to enhance their appearance. They stated a preference for the natural beauty of “typical black beauty” that reflects the true identity and dignity of Ghanaian women.

During Ghana Heritage Month, these men observed that while makeup and body enhancements may make women attractive, they believe such practices dilute Ghanaian culture and detract from the distinctive beauty of African women.

They voiced concerns that the use of eyelashes, artificial nails, and body enhancement therapies is not in line with Ghanaian cultural norms and undermines the dignity and authenticity of indigenous Ghanaian women.

In interviews with the (GNA), these men advised Ghanaian women to cherish and maintain their natural African beauty, which they believe reflects the true identity of African women.

Mr. Fred Amponsah, a teacher, emphasized that while women who use makeup may appear attractive to others, they lose out on the authentic African beauty that tells the story of the real African woman.

Meanwhile, female students defended the use of makeup, stating that it plays an essential role in contemporary and contributes to personal expression. They highlighted the benefits of artificial nails, eyelashes, and wigs in enhancing appearance and boosting confidence.
