Top African Anglican bishops no longer recognise Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby

Twelve Anglican church leaders have declared that they no longer consider the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, to be the leader of the global communion after he allowed blessings for gay partnerships.

The leaders claim to represent 75% of Anglicans worldwide and accused of England of going against “historical biblical faith.” Among the leaders are the primates of South , Sudan, , Congo, and Alexandria in .

The Church of England recently approved blessings for same-sex civil partnerships, a move that the leaders oppose.

Responding to their statement, the Archbishop of Canterbury said that no structural changes to the Anglican Communion could be made without his consent.
