Tema West MP Carlos Ahenkora commissions astroturf field in Sakumono Village

Residents of Sakumono Village near have reason to celebrate as Mr Carlos Ahenkora, Member of for West, commissioned a 75 by 110-square-foot astroturf field.

The project, a collaboration between the MP and the Company, aims to provide a space for football matches, entertainment, ceremonies, and various community events.

In an inauguration ceremony attended by traditional leaders and community members, Mr Ahenkora expressed gratitude to the Company for their support in making the project a reality. The field, which took five years to complete, faced delays due to insufficient funds, prompting the MP to seek assistance from Ghana Gas.

During the inauguration, Mr. Ahenkora emphasized the community's role in the project's success and highlighted the astroturf's potential economic benefits. He stated, “Some division one league teams have already registered their interest in using the facility as their home park,” indicating potential revenue for community development.

To oversee maintenance and event management, a committee of nine members has been appointed. Mr. Ahenkora emphasized fairness and transparency in the facility's use, with two policemen included in the committee to ensure adherence to guidelines.

The project, seen as evidence of the government's commitment to youth development, aligns with international football standards. Mr Salifu Sinkari, CEO of Blaze Investment Company Limited and the project's engineer, stated that proper maintenance could extend the astroturf's lifespan to ten to twelve years.

Mr. Edomgbole Nwiah Anyimah, the project manager for Ghana Gas Company, highlighted their commitment to social responsibility, stating, “so long as Ghana Gas continues to exist, it will keep on providing needed developmental sports facilities.”
