The Mastercard Foundation has initiated a diagnostic exercise aimed at facilitating the employment of three million young Ghanaian women and men in dignified and fulfilling work by 2030.

This endeavor brings together various stakeholders, including young individuals, academia, government bodies, and private sector entities.

Madam Rica Rwigamba, Country Director for the Mastercard Foundation in Ghana, emphasized the potential of the agriculture and agriculture-adjacent sector in job creation and youth development, particularly for young women.

During an Editors' Roundtable Forum organized by the Foundation in , Madam Rwigamba elaborated on their strategies.

To harness the sector's potential for creating opportunities for young people, the Foundation aims to strengthen its efforts in the agriculture industry.

Their approach involves using value chain and market systems development to address systemic obstacles, enhance productivity, and provide access to value chain operators.

Madam Rwigamba articulated the Foundation's vision for Ghana, stating, “The Foundation's vision in Ghana is that by 2030, the country will be a continental demonstration of young people, especially women, harnessing opportunities to shape the future of work and to create an inclusive economy with enhanced resilience for the most vulnerable.”

She underscored the alignment of the Young Africa Works in Ghana with the government's Agenda for Jobs, which aims to create prosperity and equal opportunities for all, as well as the government's commitment to position Ghana as a global and technology hub.
