Ghana Immigration Service boosts border control with 30 new vehicles

The (GIS) has received a fleet of 30 vehicles from the government through the Ministry of Interior, aimed at enhancing effective border control.

The vehicles, presented in a ceremony in by Mr. , Minister for the Interior, will bolster the GIS's capabilities in managing the country's borders amidst emerging threats in the West African sub-region.

The newly acquired fleet comprises 23 Toyota Land Cruisers GXR, three Toyota Land Cruisers Twin Turbo, one Toyota Land Cruiser VXS, one Toyota Tundra, and two Toyota Double Cabin Pick-ups.

Mr. emphasized the government's commitment to addressing security challenges at various borders, particularly the Northern frontiers.

He stated, “Government views the GIS as an integral part of the security architecture that can deal with the insecurities at the border, hence the donation of the cars.”

The Minister underscored the importance of effective border management and security, stating, “It is in this direction that we are gathered here today, to unveil these vehicles to you for effective border management and security.”

Mr. Kwame Asuah-Takyi, Comptroller General of GIS, expressed gratitude for the government's gesture, highlighting that the additional vehicles would meet both operational and administrative needs. He stressed the significance of the donation in aiding border protection and combating crimes.

“The Service is already implementing a radical and ambitious reform to enhance operational effectiveness and visibilities in all sectors across the country,” Mr Asuah-Takyi remarked.

However, he acknowledged the evolving security situation in Northern neighbouring countries and called for additional logistical support to counter potential threats at Ghana's borders, especially in the Northern Frontiers.

“I will enjoin all well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to also lend a hand of support to the Service, for when the borders are secured, the country is safe,” Mr Asuah-Takyi added.
