ECOWAS Court of Justice conducts orientation programme for newly recruited staff

The Court of Justice has commenced a comprehensive two-day orientation programme for its newly recruited staff members at its headquarters in Abuja.

Dr Yaouza Ouro-Sama, Chief Registrar of the Court, emphasized the importance of quickly familiarizing themselves with the Court's structure, processes, and functions. He urged the new staff to seize the opportunity presented by the orientation to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge for the effective discharge of their duties. Dr Ouro-Sama underscored the significance of upholding the organization's hierarchy, rules, ethics, and procedures while fostering integrity, transparency, objectivity, and teamwork.

In a welcome address, Dr William Towah, Director of Administration and Finance, represented by Human Resource Officer Mrs Mariame Kone, reiterated the importance of adhering to ethical standards and diligently fulfilling their responsibilities.

The orientation programme, a periodic exercise organized by the Court, aims to integrate new staff into the organization's processes and procedures effectively. Presentations covering various topics such as the Court's history, vision, mandate, strategic goals, legal texts, and judicial statistics will be delivered.

Furthermore, the new recruits will receive insights into the functions of different departments and units of the Court, including the Research and Documentation Department, the Department of Administration and Finance, as well as the Protocol, ICT, and Communication units.

Additionally, representatives from the Pension Office and the ECOWAS Staff Mutual Credit Union will provide guidance on savings and retirement plans.

Speakers at the programme include Dr Yaouza Ouro-Sama, Chief Registrar; Dr Athanase Atannon, Deputy Chief Registrar; Dr Ousmane Diallo, Director of Research and Documentation; Heads of Divisions and Units; and staff from the Protocol, ICT, and Communication units.

The orientation programme underscores the Court's commitment to equipping its staff with the requisite knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the attainment of its mandate within the ECOWAS community.
