Ten individuals accused of engaging in land guard activities in East Legon, Accra, have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court.
The accused are alleged to have obstructed a pensioner from developing her brother's land.
The individuals, including Maxwell Ayariga and Godwin Odocala, faced charges of conspiracy, prohibiting landguard activities, and causing unlawful damage.
All the accused individuals pleaded not guilty. The court, presided over by Mr Isaac Addo, granted bail to each accused person in the sum of GH¢60,000 with two sureties, to be justified.
The court also instructed the prosecution to comply with disclosure rules and adjourned the matter to January 9, 2024.
According to the prosecution led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nana Oppong, the complainant, Juliana Ayayee Lokko, is a pensioner residing in Community 5, Tema.
The accused persons claimed to live in Accra, but their residence details were not provided to the police.
The prosecutor explained that in 2022, the complainant's brother, residing in London, acquired two plots of land from Nii Kofi Adjei, who had obtained the land from the Okpong We family of Teshie and secured a land title certificate from the Lands Commission.
The accused individuals allegedly prevented the complainant and her workers from accessing the land, damaging property in the process.
The accused persons claimed they were sent to protect the land by an individual named Francis, who is currently at large.
