The Akatsi South Police Command has made a significant discovery as they have retrieved human remains suspected to be those of Louis Agbogli, a 28-year-old motor rider who went missing on April 21.
Louis Agbogli, a resident of Akatsi within the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, was last seen picking up a female pillion rider on April 21, heading towards the Kpetoe area.
Chief Superintendent Isaac Baah, the Akatsi South Municipal Police Commander, provided details about the incident during a briefing with the Ghana News Agency (GNA). He revealed that on Thursday, April 27, Mr Lumor Agbogli, the father of the deceased, reported his son's disappearance to the police.
According to Mr Baah, preliminary investigations by the police revealed that on Thursday, April 20, the suspect, an 18-year-old girl named Regina Dagba from Asafotsi-Dagbakope, sought the services of a motor rider to take her to Adetsewui, where she was supposed to meet her boyfriend.
“The charge for transportation of the suspect could not meet her financial status at that time, so the deceased willingly added GHC 3.00 to help aid her departure to the village,” Mr Baah explained.
The suspect contacted the deceased the following day to express gratitude for his assistance and asked him to take her to Kpetoe, to which he agreed despite his fellow riders' discouragement.
“After reaching Kpetoe, the suspect appealed to the deceased to take her to a village called Nyatsive. However, the deceased never returned, causing fear and panic among his relatives and friends,” Mr Baah added.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, Regina Dagba, and her 20-year-old boyfriend, Etse Datsomor, from Adetsewui. They were apprehended at the Wute stretch of the Akatsi-Ziope road on Monday, May 15. During interrogation, both suspects admitted to the murder of the victim.
Following a court order, Etse, together with a team of police officers from Ghana and Togo, led authorities to a gravel pit site located between Kpetoe and Nyatsive, near Togo. It was at this site that bones and a skull were retrieved under the guidance of the suspect.
“After a careful inspection, it was found that the body had decomposed, leaving behind only the bones and skull,” Mr Baah stated.
In addition to the remains, the suspect also led the police team to a nearby bush where the deceased's motorbike was discovered, close to the alleged murder site.
Efforts are currently underway to send the recovered remains to Accra for forensic laboratory examination. Meanwhile, the suspects are expected to appear in court again on Friday, June 2.
