The Yebuah Maternity Ward at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra has been renovated and handed over to the hospital by the Stephens family in a ceremony.
The renovation, which began in October of the previous year, included tiling the wards, re-roofing, expanding and equipping the kitchen, as well as various other improvements to the ward's infrastructure.
The renovation of the 54-bed capacity ward was a special birthday gift from the children of Mrs Helena Gaisie Stephens, the CEO of Kaysens Limited.
Colonel Richard Naab, Officer in Charge of the Faustina Yebuah Maternity Ward, expressed his joy and gratitude for the renovation, highlighting the significant number of deliveries the ward handles each year.
Colonel Naab explained that the ward had not seen major renovations in the past decade, resulting in various infrastructure issues that needed urgent attention.
He acknowledged the challenges the hospital faced with staffing and equipment but believed that the Stephens family's initiative would motivate the staff to provide quality services and prevent maternal and perinatal deaths.
Colonel Naab called on benevolent organizations to support the renovation of the maternity and gynaecological theatres, as well as the equipping of the neonatal intensive care unit.
Brigadier General Raymond Ewusi, Director General of Medical Services for the Ghana Armed Forces, emphasized the importance of a patient-friendly environment in providing quality healthcare.
Brigadier General Ewusi praised the Stephens family for their contribution and expressed his gratitude by suggesting the adoption of more wards for similar renovations in the future.

Mrs Helena Gaisie Stephens commended her children for spearheading the renovation and urged the hospital staff to show love and care to all patients.
She considered working in the maternity ward as a calling from God and encouraged the staff to render their services with love.
Mrs Stephens also appealed to other benevolent organizations and friends to extend their support to the hospital.
During the ceremony, the hospital presented a plaque and a gift to Mrs Gaisie Stephens and Colonel (Retired) Faustina Cecelia Yebuah, for whom the ward is named.

Following the handing over of the ward, friends and family members began donating to the hospital as well.
The 37 Military Hospital was established in 1941 to care for war-wounded soldiers, and it has since expanded to include various specialized wards, including the maternity ward.
