The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, owner of Elmina Sharks Football Club, for alleged breaches of the Division One League Regulations and the GFA Disciplinary Code. The charges stem from his actions during a league match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks at the Dr. Nduom Sports Complex.

Dr Nduom allegedly entered the inner perimeter and field of play without authorization to protest a penalty decision, disrupting the match proceedings. The GFA further accuses him of inciting Elmina Sharks players, officials, and fans against the match officials. Additionally, he is alleged to have used social media to escalate tensions by encouraging supporters and club officials to act against the referees.

The football governing body has given Dr. Nduom until Wednesday, February 19, to officially respond to the charges.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Smith Arthur, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Elmina Sharks, has distanced the club from individuals who attacked referee Morrison during the game. He claims that the assailants were not genuine supporters of the club but imposters whose actions have tarnished its reputation.

“A player, who pointed out one of the imposters from Swedru, claimed he had seen the man during our first-leg match in Swedru. This alleged imposter hit the player, leading to a confrontation between them. At that moment, after striking the player, the imposter went on to grab the referee.

“If you carefully watch the video, you’ll notice a man in white attire holding the referee, with ‘Elmina Sharks’ written on the back of his outfit. These are the individuals we are calling imposters, and we have video evidence that we will release,” he stated.

The GFA is expected to review the case and determine the appropriate sanctions based on its disciplinary code.
