The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday, September 5, 2026, brought members of the diplomatic community together at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp, for the fourth edition of “A Day with the Diplomatic Corps”.
The annual celebration of unity games provided a refreshing break from the usual formalities of diplomatic engagements and brought together diplomats, their families and guests for a day of friendship, sports, music, food and cultural exchange.

The event was held under the theme, “Unity in Diversity: Connecting Countries, People and Cultures.”
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khadija Iddrisu, described the occasion as a cherished family day that allowed diplomacy to take on a more personal dimension through friendship, laughter and shared humanity.
She noted that sports and recreation contribute to well-being by reducing stress, bringing joy and strengthening the relationships that underpin diplomacy and friendship.
Ambassador Iddrisu said the theme reflected the importance of bringing people together despite differences in nationality and culture. She observed that the cheerfulness of children, music and friendly sporting competition create bridges of friendship that extend beyond formal diplomatic protocols.
She paid tribute to diplomats, their spouses, children and loved ones, recognising them as important pillars behind the work of diplomacy and the relationships that connect nations.
Recalling that the previous edition attracted about 1,000 participants, the Chief Director expressed optimism that the fourth edition would have greater participation and memorable experiences. She also commended the Organising Committee, sponsors, supporting institutions and volunteers for their dedication towards making the celebration possible.
The Deputy Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Zimbabwe to Ghana, H.E. Kufa E. Chinoza, expressed appreciation to the Ministry for hosting the gathering and to the Ghana Armed Forces for making its facilities available.
He said the occasion gave members of the diplomatic community the opportunity to put aside their formal roles, trade the office for the field and connect in a more relaxed and sociable environment. According to him, the gathering helped reveal the human side of diplomacy, bringing people together as friends, families, neighbours and fellow human beings.
H.E. Chinoza noted that “Unity in Diversity” was particularly significant in today’s world, where global unity faces several challenges. He said the gathering demonstrated that people from different countries and continents could remain connected through their shared commitment to service, humanity and the richness of their cultures.
He said the real reward of the day went beyond medals and final scores, emphasising that the friendships, laughter and respect shared during the various activities were the lasting gains of the celebration.
He described sports as a unique language that requires neither translation nor formal protocol, allowing people to compete passionately while still walking away as friends.
Aside from the games, dancing and networking, the day also offered a rich cultural experience, with participants sampling a variety of local delicacies and traditional dishes from Senegal, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Serbia, the Netherlands, Korea, Liberia, South Africa, Nigeria, Peru, Australia, Niger, Lebanon, the United Kingdom, Angola, Luxembourg, Equatorial Guinea, Namibia and Mozambique, alongside contributions from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The culinary showcase provided a taste of the diversity within the diplomatic community and added another dimension to the celebration, as countries and FAO brought the flavours, dishes and traditions of their respective cultures to the gathering.
The celebration was organised with the support of sponsors and partners, including Kasapreko, Special Ice, Coca-Cola, Cerveau Real Estates, SOH Energies, BOST, Sunon Asogli Ghana Ltd., Africa World Airlines, Zonda Technical Ghana, Bank of Ghana, Minerals Development Fund, Clos Jangli, UBA and Kenya Airways.

The fourth edition of “A Day with the Diplomatic Corps” demonstrated that diplomacy is not confined to meeting rooms, formal negotiations and engagements.
