Mr Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, has assured the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament that Ghana‘s long-awaited National Sports Policy will be finalised and officially adopted before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
The policy is designed to provide a comprehensive framework for the development, management, and promotion of sports and recreation in the country.

Appearing before PAC on Tuesday, Mr Adams explained that delays in finalising the policy were due to “ongoing realignment within the Ministry, particularly the inclusion of recreation as a major component of its mandate.”
He noted that the Ministry has been incorporating new directives and structural adjustments into the draft, which is now in its final stages.
“We needed to factor all these into the draft policy as it existed. So I can assure you that before our next meeting…before the end of the first quarter next year, the policy should be ready as a full policy and not in draft anymore,” Mr Adams stated.
The Minister also revealed that President John Dramani Mahama had directed the establishment of a School Sports Agency to oversee sports development at the basic and secondary school levels nationwide.
“It will no longer be something the Ghana Education Service alone will be doing, where, when they don’t have time or money, it goes off,” he added.
The adoption of the National Sports Policy and the creation of the School Sports Agency are expected to significantly enhance sports development, governance, and recreational opportunities across Ghana.
