Solomon Owusu Anim emerged as the winner of the inaugural National Open competition organized by the Ghana Ski and Sliding Federation.
The event took place on June 26-27, 2023, at the University of Ghana campus in Accra. The competition aimed to develop and promote the sport of skiing and sliding in Ghana and was held under the auspices of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Authority (NSA), and the African Ski Confederation (ASC).
Mr Godwin Vasco Nukunu, the President of the Federation and Vice President of ASC expressed his satisfaction with the athletes' performance in an interview with GNA Sports.
He also mentioned that the competition served as a platform to select athletes for both local and international upcoming events.
Mr Nukunu stated, “I'm impressed with the performance of the athletes because it is the first of its kind and they have really proven that the sport has a future in Ghana.”
Furthermore, he highlighted the growing popularity of the sport among the youth, stating that the sport, which was introduced a few years ago, was becoming increasingly attractive.
He also revealed plans to organize competitive events in the regional capitals and tertiary institutions in the near future.
