Renowned actress Fella Makafui has bravely shared her personal journey of learning to disregard detractors on social media, citing a distressing incident that pushed her into a state of depression.
During an interview on 3FM, she disclosed that several years ago, she was on the verge of attempting suicide after a sex tape was leaked, which falsely implicated her.
Fella Makafui emphasized that although she was not the individual depicted in the video, the negative judgments and opinions of others at that time profoundly affected her mental well-being, preventing her from verifying the video's authenticity.
Recalling how she first learned about the tape, she recounted, “My manager called me and said, ‘Precious, I know you can't do this, but I want you to be honest with me. There's a tape out there, is it of you?' And I said, ‘What?? Where? Never!' So, I told myself I didn't think I could take it anymore.”
Fella Makafui further explained that even after watching the video, she was taken aback by the news and only noticed the resemblance between herself and the girl in question, without any substantive evidence.
“I was just so concerned about what people were saying about me. But then I thought to myself, I haven't done that, this is not true, so why is it spreading?” she expressed.
The actress credited Shatta Wale for rescuing her from the depths of despair and for steadfastly standing by her side, defending her during the ensuing controversy.
“I was so messed up; I cried so much. At around 11 pm, Shatta called, saying, ‘Mummy, mummy, forget, forget,' and then he sent me the link. Apparently, it's a couple on Twitter that shoots those videos, and the girl had a tattoo on her back. And I didn't even notice that because I was so consumed by what people were saying about me,” she recounted.
Fella Makafui continued, “If Shatta hadn't sent the link, I would have believed it and killed myself. If you remember, he came on social media and blasted people, then shared the link to confirm that I wasn't the victim.”
The actress revealed that she has since learned not to pay attention to or read people's opinions about her on social media, following the harrowing incident.
“They don't know me, they can't judge me, and I'm not going to let them decide or dictate what to do or what not to do,” she confidently asserted.
