Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, has called for greater investment in Africa‘s sports and entertainment sectors, emphasising their potential to drive social and economic transformation across the continent.
Speaking over the weekend at the 2025 Africa Business Conference hosted by Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C., Mahama highlighted the significance of sports and entertainment as Africa’s “soft power” – a force capable of challenging outdated narratives, uplifting communities, and changing lives.
During a panel discussion on “Media, Marketing and Entertainment,” Sharaf Mahama underscored the strategic importance of the creative economy in shaping Africa’s global image and influencing youth development. He also participated in an investor session hosted by the Voice of Africa, where he reiterated the need for targeted funding and policy support to harness the full potential of the continent’s sports and entertainment industries.
Legacy Rise Sports, under Mr Mahama’s leadership, is committed to building sustainable pathways for young African talents and fostering a globally competitive sports and entertainment ecosystem in Africa.
