The Kaneshie District Court has sentenced a 25-year-old scrap collector to six months in prison for the theft of a television set valued at GH₵7,000.
Abu Issahaku, the convict, admitted to breaking into Plus 2 Restaurant to steal the 52-inch LG flat screen television.
Police Chief Inspector Achana Apewah provided details to the Court, stating that the complainant, Mr. Lawrence Kyei, a waiter/caretaker at Plus 2 Restaurant, discovered Issahaku with the stolen television on December 9, 2023.
The witness, Frank Taylor, confronted Issahaku at the restaurant's entrance, leading to the abandonment of the stolen item.
The witness promptly informed the complainant about the incident, and together, they located Issahaku sitting in front of a house at Kokomlemle.
Upon realizing he had been discovered, Issahaku attempted to escape by running and entering a nearby gutter.
Despite his efforts to evade capture, the police were called, and Issahaku was eventually arrested and charged with unlawful entry and stealing.
Chief Inspector Achana highlighted that Issahaku, during the investigation, provided a cautioned statement. Following due process, he was charged with the offenses and brought before the Kaneshie District Court presided over by Nana Abena Aso Owusu-Omenyo.
