Ghana's female high jumper, Rose Amoaniamaa Yeboah has won Ghana's first gold medal at the ongoing Africa Athletics Championship in Mauritius.

Amoaniamaa who holds the second-highest jump record in Ghana (1.84), made a massive improvement this time around with a jump of 1.79m.

She came first ahead of Nigeria's Adeshina Temitope, South Africa's Robson Yvonne and Siba Rhiziane from Morocco in the High Jump senior category.

This is the second major gold Amoaniamaa has won over the years at the continental stage, with her first coming at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco.

Another Ghanaian athlete, Safo-Antwi ran 10:28s in the 100m heats to gain straight qualification to book a semi-final berth.

However, he placed sixth with a time of 10.31s to miss out on the finals.

Four Ghanaian athletes are representing the country at the continental competition.

The 2022 Africa Athletics championship is ongoing at the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex in Mauritius and will span from 8-12 June.
