Veteran Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo has passed away at the age of 63 after suffering severe burns from a fire accident.
He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Ridge Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for over a week. His condition was first made public on February 8 by Judith Addison of Beyond Burns International, a non-profit organization that supports burn survivors. She described his state as critical following the accident.
Semevo was a celebrated figure in Ghanaian theatre and film, known for his compelling performances that left a lasting impact on the country’s entertainment industry. His passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from colleagues and fans.
“Rest in perfect peace, Senior Mawuli Semevo,” fellow actor Ken Fiati wrote in a tribute on Facebook.
Semevo starred in several notable films, including Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.
