Former NDC Running Mate Accuses President of Blaming Failures on Non-Supporters
Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the 2020 running mate of NDC flagbearer John Mahama, has condemned President Akufo-Addo for his recent remarks on the lack of development in Ekumfi, Central Region. In a statement on social media, Professor Opoku-Agyemang accused the president of a consistent pattern of attributing his failures to those who did not vote for him.
President Akufo-Addo reportedly stated that Ekumfi was excluded from national development initiatives because the constituents voted against the NPP‘s parliamentary candidate, Ato Cudjoe, in the 2020 elections. The comments have faced widespread condemnation, with the NDC describing them as unpresidential and highlighting the president’s vindictive nature.
In her post, the former Education Minister urged Ghanaians to vote against the NPP in the upcoming December polls, emphasizing the need to prioritize local area developments. Professor Opoku-Agyemang also highlighted previous instances where the president allegedly blamed his failures on those who did not support him, citing responses to other regions and communities.
The statement suggests a growing dissatisfaction with the president’s approach to governance and electoral politics, setting the stage for heightened political discourse in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
