President John Dramani Mahama has used his address at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to congratulate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic appointment as Ghana‘s first woman Vice President.
“I would also like to congratulate Her Excellency Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on being the first woman Vice President of Ghana. Now every Ghanaian girl knows the heights to which she can ascend,” President Mahama stated.
He also commended Madam Annalena Baerbock, a German diplomat and politician, on her election as President of the 80th UN General Assembly, noting that she is only the fifth woman to hold this distinction.
“Words matter, but issues of representation matter even more, which is why Ghana looks forward to the appointment of a woman as Secretary-General of this organisation in the future,” he added, emphasising the importance of gender representation in global leadership.
