President John Mahama has designated the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, as the Minister responsible for National Security.
The announcement was made in a letter from the President to Parliament, which was read by the Speaker during a parliamentary sitting on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The appointment, made under Section 64 of the Securities and Intelligence Act, 2020 (Act 1030), grants Muntaka Mubarak oversight of national security matters in addition to his existing responsibilities at the Interior Ministry.
“I convey to the House that I have assigned ministerial responsibility for national security to the Minister of the Interior, Hon. Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak,” President Mahama stated in the letter.
The dual role is expected to enhance coordination between the Interior Ministry and national security agencies, ensuring a more integrated approach to addressing the country’s security challenges.
