Acting CEO Ghana Shippers Council, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has strongly denied recent allegations circulating on radio and social media, describing them as “baseless” and “deliberately fabricated” to tarnish his reputation. In a statement issued Monday, the outspoken academic and public servant addressed claims that he had influenced the recruitment of 28 women and two men and abused privileges related to foreign travel.

Prof. Gyampo dismissed the recruitment claims, stating that he holds no authority in the hiring process at his workplace. According to him, recruitment is handled professionally by an outsourced private agency through a rigorous and independent process.

Responding to reports of excessive foreign travel, he clarified that although his role requires occasional travel, he has honoured only four out of over 38 opportunities, each with express approval from the Chief of Staff. He added that, contrary to suggestions of extravagant spending, he is the only Chief Executive Officer in Ghana who has consistently flown on economy tickets, with boarding pass records available as proof.

“My lawyers and other legal professionals I don’t even know, have taken over the matter and will deal with the individuals behind these baseless claims this week,” he stated.

Prof. Gyampo, known for his vocal stance on national issues, said he felt compelled to respond despite calls from his admirers to ignore the claims. He explained that in Ghana, “lies become truth in the psyche of many people” when left uncorrected.

He reaffirmed his commitment to public service and national discourse: “I won’t do anything to betray the trust reposed in me. Baseless allegations have never been enough to silence me. I will always speak my mind on every relevant national issue while focusing on my core job of championing the interests of shippers forcefully and proactively.”

In a final note, he thanked President John Dramani Mahama for “resetting Ghana’s history” by restoring the recognition of July 1 as Ghana’s Republic Day.
