The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race has officially entered a decisive stage, with five aspirants formally filing their nominations to contest for the flagbearer slot.
A statement released by the party’s Presidential Elections Committee on Thursday, August 28, 2025, confirmed that all five individuals who picked up nomination forms have duly submitted them. They include former presidential staffer Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Assin Central MP Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Food and Agriculture Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Vice President H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Minister for Education Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The development sets the stage for a highly anticipated internal contest that will determine the party’s standard-bearer for the 2026 general elections.
William Yamoah, Secretary of the Presidential Elections Committee, assured stakeholders that the process would remain credible and impartial.
“The Committee assures all stakeholders of its commitment to a transparent, credible, and fair process, guided by the Party’s Constitution and Regulations, to ensure the integrity of the process,” the statement noted.
The primary is scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, with the NPP’s rank and file expected to watch closely as the party prepares for one of its most competitive leadership contests in recent years.
