The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, is scheduled to appear before Parliament on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, to address concerns regarding the construction of the central bank‘s new headquarters.

His appearance follows a request made in August 2023 by Members of Parliament from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who demanded a detailed briefing on the project’s financing, cost implications, scope, and completion timeline.

Speaking in Parliament, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga underscored the need for transparency, emphasizing that the bank’s leadership must justify the decision to construct a new headquarters.

“At the committee meeting, we resolved that next Wednesday, we will invite the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, as an independent constitutional entity, to brief this house on the pricing of the new headquarters. We want to understand how the price variations occurred, how quantities were determined, and the justification for the necessity of a new BoG headquarters,” he stated.

The development comes months after former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo inaugurated the Bank Square, a newly built headquarters for the central bank, on November 20, 2024.
