The Member of Parliament (MP) for Biakoye Constituency in the Oti Region, Kwadwo Nyanpon Aboagye, has organised a free eye screening and surgery exercise for residents in the constituency.
A total of 2,965 people benefited from the screening exercise, with 2,785 receiving free medications, 574 receiving free eye lenses, while 316 people successfully underwent eye surgery at the Worawora Government Hospital.

According to Mr Aboagye, cataract was identified as the major eye condition among beneficiaries who underwent surgery, with many having their sight restored through the intervention.
The MP also sponsored medical supplies, accommodation, transportation and feeding for both the medical team and patients who participated in the exercise.
He said the initiative was motivated by the outcome of previous health screening programmes organised for residents since he became the Member of Parliament.
Mr Aboagye commended doctors and nurses from the Friends Eye Centre for dedicating their time and expertise to support the exercise.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the MP for the support, describing the programme as a relief for residents who could not afford eye treatment.
This was not the first time the MP had organised such an intervention. In a previous exercise in 2021, about 1,700 residents were screened, 988 received medication, and 352 underwent surgery.
