A physically challenged man, believed to be in his 50s, was found dead Friday morning at the Korle Bu traffic light, opposite the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
The unidentified man was suspected to be a beggar, but other beggars at the intersection denied knowing him. His lifeless body was discovered wrapped in a Ghana flag, with his crutches placed on top of him.
An eyewitness recalled seeing him sitting at the location with his crutches beside him around 4 p.m. the previous day. Police have launched an investigation but currently suspect no foul play.
Environmental health officers from the Ablekuma South sub-metro, led by District Environmental Officer George Lawson, fumigated the area before conveying the body to the morgue. Lawson said he was informed about the discovery and reported the case to the Korle Bu Police Station. Detective Chief Inspector Vandyke later accompanied the health officers to remove the body.
Authorities are yet to locate the deceased’s relatives.
