The Ghana Police Hospital, situated in Accra, is preparing to conduct a mass burial for 140 unidentified and unclaimed bodies.
This exercise is scheduled to begin on November 22, 2023, with the primary aim of decongesting the hospital morgue.
The decision to proceed with the mass burial is due to the hospital's inability to identify the deceased individuals or establish contact with their families.
The bodies have been in the morgue since June of this year.
In a statement released by the Medical Director of the Hospital, Commissioner of Police (COP) Dr Harold Agbenu, the public is encouraged to provide information regarding any suspected cases of missing relatives to the hospital's pathology department.
The statement emphasizes the hospital's commitment to handling this matter with the utmost sensitivity and respect for the deceased and their families.
It also calls on the public to cooperate with the hospital to ensure a proper and respectful burial for these individuals.
In addition, the statement advises the public to carry identification cards with them at all times, as this can be crucial for identification during emergencies.
