Obuasi, Ashanti Region – The Fifty 50 Club, a non-governmental organization based in Obuasi, has extended a helping hand by presenting a cheque for GH¢25,000 to support the surgeries of four patients grappling with various medical conditions.
The club, comprising employees from AngloGold Ashanti and its subsidiaries, as well as workers from other corporate entities, boasts a membership of 245 individuals who have been making monthly contributions towards charitable causes.
Here is a breakdown of the beneficiaries and their respective support:
- Blessing Ama Woode Kwamba, a two-year-old girl from Obuasi diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect (a hole in the heart), received GH¢10,000 to aid in her corrective surgery at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-bu Teaching Hospital.
- James Danquah, a 42-year-old man diagnosed with Severe Mitral Valve Regurgitation (an acquired heart disease) at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, received GH¢10,000 to facilitate his necessary surgery.
- Nine-year-old Federica Owusu Yeboah, a Hodgkin's Lymphoma (cancer) survivor in need of a CT scan to confirm her recovery, received GH¢500 for the essential diagnostic procedure.
- Six-year-old sickle cell patient Frederick Agyeman Duah, who faces heightened susceptibility to infections, low blood levels, and bone and joint pains, received GH¢1,000.00 to support his medical needs.
Mr. Jacob Edmund-Acquah, the President and Founder of the Fifty 50 Club, expressed gratitude to club members for their generous contributions towards achieving the organization's goals.
He expressed optimism that the donations would alleviate the patient's suffering and appealed to both corporate institutions and individuals to rally behind the club's charitable efforts.
Dr. Kwadwo Anim, the Executive Director of the AngloGold Ashanti Health Foundation, commended the Fifty 50 Club for its swift intervention in aiding the beneficiaries' medical treatments.
He highlighted the challenges patients face in accessing timely treatment due to their socio-economic backgrounds and emphasized the importance of financial support for such cases.
Dr. Anim also noted that despite advancements in medical technology, financing remained a substantial obstacle, and he encouraged individuals and organizations to follow the club's example and contribute to the treatment of various diseases.
Madam Gladys Adu, the mother of one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude to the club for coming to her daughter's aid. She revealed that battling the disease had placed a significant financial burden on her family, making the club's intervention a welcome relief.
The Fifty 50 Club has been actively involved in philanthropic activities since 2020, providing support for surgeries, medical treatments, scholarships for needy students, and financial assistance for businesses, while also aiding community clinics with medical equipment and supplies.
