NPP is well aware they will lose December 2024 elections - Mahama

The 2024 flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (), , has asserted that the governing New Patriotic Party () is well aware that it is headed for defeat in the upcoming December 2024 elections.

According to Mr Mahama, the NPP has internally acknowledged this inevitable situation, prompting them to resort to gerrymandering tactics.

In a press statement on Monday, June 3, Mr Mahama warned the (EC) about its directive barring political parties from monitoring the ongoing transfer of votes.

He stressed that this decision contradicts an earlier agreement made with political parties during an (IPAC) meeting the previous week.

Mr Mahama insisted that the EC's move suggests an intention to assist the NPP in securing victory in the 2024 general elections.

He thus criticised the Commission for what he sees as an attempt to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the governing party.

Despite these alleged tactics, Mahama expressed confidence that the NPP will not succeed in retaining power.

He pointed to the party's leadership over the past eight years, suggesting that their performance would lead to their defeat in the upcoming polls.

“The NPP knows and internally admits that it will lose the 2024 presidential elections. We also know that, as a last resort, it seeks to deploy gerrymandering during this voter transfer period to improve its chances in the parliamentary elections in the erroneous belief that it may rely on that to affect its presidential votes,” the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer stated.

“Again, they will fail because that strategy will not work. We have in our possession a long list of constituencies in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions and selected places in Greater and other regions where the NPP is seeking to transfer thousands of voters from their strongholds to offset the NDC's gains in constituencies we control,” he insisted.
