The Bolgatanga Technical University in the Upper East Region has initiated post-graduate programs, marking a significant milestone in its academic offerings. The university admitted its first cohort of post-graduate students for the 2023/2024 academic year, comprising 36 students, including 27 males and nine females.
These students will pursue master's degrees in various fields, including Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, and Ecological Agriculture. Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, the Vice Chancellor of the University, highlighted this achievement during the 22nd matriculation ceremony.
According to Professor Alnaa, the introduction of post-graduate programs aligns with the university's vision to offer cutting-edge academic programs that contribute to sustainable national development. He emphasized that the university plans to expand its post-graduate offerings progressively, with the eventual introduction of Doctor of Philosophy programs in fields like Agriculture.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed the university's ambition to become the preferred tertiary institution nationally and globally, offering comprehensive academic programs. He urged students and faculty to leverage the abundance of learning resources available at the university to foster innovation and problem-solving skills.
However, Professor Alnaa raised concerns about the university's infrastructure challenges, particularly the shortage of lecture halls, which hinders smooth academic operations. He appealed to the government for urgent intervention to address these infrastructure deficits and provide financial support for faculty recruitment.
Despite these challenges, the university admitted a total of 1,371 students, representing a 13% increase compared to the previous academic year. The Vice-Chancellor encouraged both staff and students to uphold academic integrity and conduct themselves responsibly to maintain the university's reputation.
