Party Engages Youth, Restores Normalcy After Alhaji Abdul Hamid's Arrest and Suspension

The National Democratic Congress () has successfully diffused tension in the after engaging with youth who locked up the party's office. The incident followed the arrest and subsequent suspension of the NDC's Vice Chairman, Alhaji Abdul Hamid.

Alhaji Abdul Hamid was arrested and subsequently released, leading to his suspension from the party. The suspension resulted from allegations of assaulting the NDC Northern Regional Treasurer, Hajia Shamima Yakubu, during a party executive meeting at the regional office.

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, revealed in an interview with that the party has managed to reopen its office in the Northern Region. He explained that some youths may not have fully grasped the implications of the decision to suspend Alhaji Abdul Hamid and were reacting to the situation.

“We have engaged some people and explained why we took the decision and why the police came in. It has nothing to do with the NDC, and it was about the assault that had taken place. So, remains very calm, and I am told the party office has been opened, and things have normalized,” Gbande stated.

The NDC's proactive approach in addressing the concerns of the youth and providing context to the arrest and suspension seems to have played a pivotal role in deescalating tensions and restoring calm to the Northern Region. The party continues to emphasize its commitment to maintaining internal discipline and addressing issues promptly to ensure the smooth functioning of its regional offices.
