The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has denied the accusations made by Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawase, that they conspired to oust him from his position.
Muntaka, the former Minority Chief Whip, claimed that certain individuals within the party had been scheming to remove him from Parliament for some time.
In response to these allegations, Captain (Rtd) John Kwame Jabari, the 1st Vice Chairman of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, emphasized that the power to elect candidates rested with the delegates, not the party leadership.
He further stated that the party cannot prevent candidates who have followed the proper procedures from contesting in order to favour others.
Captain Jabari clarified the party's stance, saying, “We wanted the elections to be free and fair, and that is exactly what happened… As a region, there was no intention of that.”
Mohammed Muntaka, in a subsequent interview, suggested that the recent change in the Minority Leadership in Parliament was part of a larger strategy to remove him from office.
He expressed his belief that the timing of the leadership change, where he was the only one with a contender while others did not face challengers, was evidence of a deliberate plot against him.
Muntaka concluded his statement by affirming that divine intervention would not allow his opponents to succeed in their plans.
During the party's primaries, Muntaka faced a strong challenge from Masawudu Mubarick for the Asawase constituency parliamentary seat.
However, Muntaka emerged victorious, securing 1,063 of the total valid votes, while his main contender, Masawudu Mubarick, trailed behind with 735 votes.
