In a resolute message directed at the youth of Nayagenia, Lawrence Lou Anuseh, President of the Nayagenia Development Association (NDA), has cautioned against involvement in political violence as the nation gears up for the 2024 general elections.
The Nayagenia community, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and tight-knit bonds, has historically embraced peaceful coexistence.
Expressing his apprehensions, Anuseh noted, “From the historical past, we’ve seen our youth involved in political issues leading to violence, causing serious injuries to some of our people. The youth can be volatile and easily persuaded by politicians.”
The stern warning was delivered during the annual gathering of chiefs and people of Nayagenia, known as ‘Nayagenia Jeiro’ (NJ23), held under the theme “Nayagenia – Uniting for Development.”
Anuseh underscored the significance of maintaining peace during the electoral process, stating that Nayagenia Jeiro aims to foster an environment of peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities and identify potential conflict areas within the community.
Highlighting the broader goals of Nayagenia Jeiro, Anuseh said, “Our objectives include securing potable drinking water, improving schools, addressing the shortage of furniture affecting education, and mobilizing resources to desilt community dams for year-round farming.”
Joseph Adongo, Municipal Chief Executive for Kassena-Nankana, commended Nayagenia for its commitment to development and urged consensus efforts for community growth. He also urged residents to discard negative behaviours that undermine the cultural fabric.
The Nayagenia Jeiro event, a manifestation of unity and commitment to community progress, brought together community members, diaspora representatives, residents, and well-wishers.
The festivities commenced with a vibrant procession showcasing Nayagenia’s diverse cultural heritage, featuring traditional dances, music, and colourful displays.
As part of Nayagenia Jeiro (NJ23), various activities such as sporting events, health screenings, a durbar, dinner, and fundraising initiatives were organized to mobilize resources for specific community projects.
The overall objective is to uplift Nayagenia, fostering development and unity among its residents.
