The Management of the National Service Scheme in Ghana has obtained government approval for an upward adjustment of the monthly allowances for National Service Personnel.
The allowance will increase from GH¢559.04 to GH¢715.57, and the new rates will be effective from January 2023.
The approval, which was conveyed in a letter signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare (MP) on 18th July 2023, follows extensive discussions between the National Service Scheme, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Ministry of Finance.
As a result of the government's approval, all current National Service Personnel will be entitled to receive arrears for the difference in the upward adjustment from January 2023, and the payments will be made accordingly. The Controller and Accountant-General have been directed to implement the new allowance levels.
Management of the National Service Scheme urged all National Service Personnel to be patient as the necessary administrative processes are being completed to ensure the prompt payment of the arrears.
The last adjustment to the NSS allowance was made in January 2017 when it was increased from GH¢350.00 to GH¢559.04. With this new increment, personnel will now receive an improved monthly allowance starting from January 2023.
