Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States, arrived in Accra, Ghana on Sunday to start her nine-day trip to Africa. The visit is aimed at reinforcing the partnership between the United States and African countries, including Ghana.
At the Kotoka International Airport, Kamala Harris was met with drumming and dancing, as well as a warm welcome from Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and other government officials. In her first address, Kamala Harris expressed her excitement about the future of Africa and the impact it will have on the rest of the world, including the United States. She also highlighted the significant role Africa plays in global development issues.
During her trip, Kamala Harris plans to hold discussions focused on increasing investments in Africa and facilitating economic growth and opportunity, particularly in areas such as the economic empowerment of women and girls, youth entrepreneurship, digital inclusion, and food security. She also intends to meet with entrepreneurs, artists, students, and farmers to witness firsthand the innovation and creativity occurring on the continent.
Kamala Harris is looking forward to building on previous meetings with heads of state to strengthen democracy, good governance, promote peace and security and strengthen business ties. She emphasized the importance of the partnership between the African continent and the United States and its people in addressing the climate crisis, supply chains, and international rules and norms.
With one in four people on earth projected to be on the African continent by 2050, Kamala Harris sees great opportunity for growth, innovation, and possibilities, not only for Africa but also for the rest of the world.
