The Ketu South Municipal Assembly has scheduled an emergency Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) meeting for Tuesday, May 23, to discuss the circumstances surrounding the attack on a team of Ghana Immigration Service personnel at the Aflao border.
Unknown individuals attacked a group of Immigration Officers from the Aflao Sector Command at an unauthorized border crossing point known as “Beat 6” around 23:25 hours on Saturday, May 20, 2023.
The team faced a barrage of stones, initially from the Togo side and then from the Ghana side, resulting in injuries to some of the officers.
Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South and Chairman of MUSEC, expressed the need for the meeting, emphasizing the importance of understanding the factors that led to the attack.
He stressed the significance of collaboration between security providers and consumers of security, particularly border residents, in ensuring peace in Ketu South.
Furthermore, Mr Lugudor expressed his hope that the meeting would help resolve conflicting reports surrounding the incident.
“We will be having the MUSEC meeting tomorrow to be sure of what actually happened. We know of the attack on the Immigration Officers, but the citizens are also saying different things,” stated the MCE.
