Germany's foreign ministry spokesperson addressed Morocco‘s decision to decline Germany's earthquake aid offerings on Monday, emphasizing that there are no political motivations behind the move.
“Diplomatic relations between Germany and Morocco are good,” stated the spokesperson. Additionally, the Moroccan side expressed gratitude for Germany's offer of assistance.
Reflecting on Germany's own experience during the deadly flooding in the Ahr Valley in 2021, the spokesperson stressed the importance of aid coordination during major disasters to prevent interference among rescue workers.
The spokesperson remarked, “I'm sure that they (Morocco) have thought very carefully about which forces can be deployed where and how they can get there, what transport capacities are available, for example.”
Germany, along with other countries, including France, has offered its readiness to assist Morocco if requested.
On Sunday, Morocco's King Mohammed VI expressed gratitude to Spain, Qatar, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates for their prompt response in sending aid following the deadliest earthquake the country has experienced in over six decades, as reported by state TV.
