Minority Criticizes Supreme Court's Decision to Nullify Assin North Election Results The Minority in Parliament has expressed strong criticism of the Supreme Court's decision to nullify the 2020 parliamentary election results in the Assin North constituency. They view the ruling as perplexing and detrimental to democracy and the rule of law. The Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, released a statement on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, expressing disapproval of the verdict. The Supreme Court's unanimous decision instructed Parliament to remove James Gyakye Quayson's name from its records as a Member of Parliament representing Assin North. The case before the Supreme Court examined the constitutionality of Quayson's election, as he was accused of dual citizenship, an allegation he denies. The Minority Leader emphasized that Quayson was not a dual citizen at the time of his election or when he took the oath of office. The Minority is yet to review the court's reasoning and will inform the public of their position after doing so.
