Emmanuel Kwasi Gida, an Accra-based mechanic, has been apprehended just 48 hours after he made a hasty escape with his client's Honda CRV.
The arrest occurred at the Aflao passport office, where Gida was attempting to obtain passports for himself and his girlfriend.
The news of his arrest was brought to light through a Facebook post by Quuquaa Aidoo Okasa-Ashong, who had sought public assistance in tracking down the fugitive mechanic.
Okasa-Ashong detailed the incident, stating, “He's a ‘fitter' who was given a 2017 Honda CR-V (as seen in the picture) to do some minor work on Saturday, 26th August 2023, but has since not been seen, including the car. He was last seen at the Akweteman/Achimota Market area. The car is unregistered but has a DV plate.”
Efforts to locate Gida had proven fruitless until his arrest. Okasa-Ashong provided a description of the suspect, saying, “He's ‘thick tall,' around 5.7″ thereabouts, and dark/chocolate in complexion.”
Emmanuel Kwasi Gida's arrest comes as a relief to the owner of the stolen vehicle, as well as concerned citizens who rallied behind the efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.
