Accra, 22nd May 2023 – The Ghana Police Service has issued a statement affirming the implementation of comprehensive security measures to maintain law and order and ensure peace during the Kumawu Constituency bye-election, scheduled for tomorrow, 23rd May 2023.
The police have deployed an ample number of officers to Kumawu and surrounding communities within the constituency to support local police forces in providing adequate security for the election.
In an effort to enhance collaboration among all stakeholders and foster a peaceful electoral process, the Police engaged with the contesting parties, which include the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and one of the independent candidates. Representatives from the NPP and NDC, including their respective National Chairmen, General Secretaries, and National Organisers, participated in the meeting. However, the other independent candidate was unable to attend.
The Ghana Police Service assures the people of the Kumawu Constituency that they can freely go about their daily activities, including exercising their civic duty to cast their votes. They also appeal to the general public, particularly the residents of Kumawu, to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in order to achieve a peaceful election and ensure the safety and security of all involved.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, who serves as the Director of Public Affairs, signed the statement on behalf of the Police Headquarters.
