Junior Graphic National Essay Competition: President Akufo-Addo recognizes youth as key to achieving Sustainable Development Goals

During a ceremony at the in on June 8, 2023, the President awarded certificates to ten winners of the National Essay Competition, organized in collaboration with the Advisory Unit.

President emphasized the importance of empowering the youth to ensure the success of the SDGs, stating, “The are an investment for children, youth, and future generations. It remains abundantly clear that we must empower the youth to ensure success in the SDGs.”

The ten awardees, selected from entries across the country, are Adjoa Nyameyie Fletcher, Amanda Osei Owusu Fosu, Wilhelmina D. Kuranchiewaa Frimpong, Awula Kai-Mansa Okantey, Ama Obeng-Baffoe, Aniel Otuo Serebour, Benedict Dei Amoani, Rita Nana Akua Agyekum, Vanessa Lamisi Asiedu, and Vanessa Lamisi Asiedu.

The President commended the initiative and highlighted the significance of education, quoting Nelson Mandela's words, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” He praised the participants for utilizing the power of education to express their thoughts, ignite change, and contribute to a brighter future.

President acknowledged the diverse range of topics covered in the essays, including eradicating poverty and hunger, ensuring quality education, promoting , and combating . He emphasized that the essays provided unique perspectives and fresh voices, offering an opportunity to learn from the minds of future leaders.

Addressing the winners, President Akufo-Addo said, “Your achievements today are just the beginning. Use this stepping stone to explore new avenues and continue making a positive difference in the world.” He also acknowledged all the participants, highlighting the value of their contributions and their role in spreading awareness and fostering understanding of the SDGs.

The President reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing quality education for all youth and investing in the development of the educational system. He expressed gratitude to parents, , and mentors who have nurtured the talents of the youth and emphasized the importance of critical thinking, creativity, and innovation.

President Akufo-Addo concluded by encouraging parents and guardians to support their wards in achieving excellence and becoming future leaders.
