Evans Mensah, the journalist and host of Top Story/PM Express on Multimedia Group Limited platforms, has strongly refuted the “fabrications” and “spurious” allegations made against him in an article published by The Herald newspaper. In a personal statement addressing these allegations, Mensah asserts that they are false and intended solely to tarnish his reputation and credibility as a professional journalist. He calls for these allegations to be disregarded.
Mensah proceeds to provide a factual response to each specific allegation, aiming to set the record straight. The following are the key points he presents:
Regarding the recent publications by The Herald, Mensah highlights that they are merely recycling old fabricated claims with the aim of undermining his reputation and credibility. He categorically states that these publications are false, malicious, and baseless, having been proven false when they were initially published in 2021 and remaining false in 2023.
Mensah addresses the first allegation by confirming that EXCOMsult Media, a firm in which he is a proprietor, has indeed provided communication consulting services for various organizations, including Aker Energy Ghana Limited since December 2019. He emphasizes that he has always openly disclosed this information, including on his LinkedIn profile. He further asserts that he has never concealed this information from his colleagues at JOYNEWS or the management of Joy FM to comply with the Code of Conduct requirements and avoid any conflicts of interest. He emphasizes that this information is not newsworthy.
Regarding the claim that EXCOMsult Media received payments of USD 500,000 from Aker Energy, Mensah firmly denies this allegation. He clarifies that both the payment of USD 500,000 and the alleged amount of USD 125,000 are entirely false and grossly exaggerated. He assures that all contract and payment details can be verified.
Mensah rebukes the repeated false claim that he has been involved in bribery or facilitating bribes to individuals. He emphasizes that all the individuals mentioned in the tabloid's allegations have publicly and categorically denied these baseless claims dating back to 2021. Mensah points to various sources from 2021, including Ghanaweb, ModernGhana, and Asaaseradio.com, where these individuals have denied the allegations. He asserts that these allegations hold no truth.
Lastly, Mensah vehemently denies the accusation that he has the power to suppress stories at Joy FM or JOYNEWS. He affirms that he works as a consummate professional in a newsroom that adheres to the highest journalistic standards and rigorous checks and balances. Every editorial decision, he explains, undergoes thorough peer review three times a day, and no individual can single-handedly suppress a story. Mensah assures that any attempt to do so would be fiercely resisted. He emphasizes that the working environment he has been part of for the past 19 years is characterized by integrity and a commitment to delivering accurate news.
In light of these responses, Evans Mensah asserts that the allegations made against him are unfounded and can never be true. He calls for the public to recognize the malicious intent behind these claims and not to be swayed by them.
