The Government of Ghana has demanded justice following the killing of a Ghanaian national in South Africa and called for a full, transparent investigation into the incident.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said 40-year-old Bashiru Isak was fatally shot in Cape Town on June 30, 2026, and condemned what it described as a senseless act of violence.

The Ministry said it has lodged a formal protest with South African authorities, demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible, and escalated the matter to the African Union Commission, urging action against xenophobic attacks on African nationals.
It added that arrangements are underway to repatriate Mr. Isak’s body to Ghana for burial.
The Ministry also called on South African authorities to guarantee the safety, dignity and rights of Ghanaians and other foreign nationals living in the country.
It advised Ghanaians in South Africa to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk areas and contact the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria in case of emergencies.
