The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has conducted an intelligence-led operation across the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions targeting syndicates involved in trafficking and exploiting foreigners for forced begging.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 1,055 West African nationals, with Nigeriens forming the majority of those picked up.

A Nigerien woman who was taken into custody during the operation gave birth to a baby girl on the same day.
The operation also led to the rescue of 662 children.
Some suspected Ghanaians accused of acting as local agents for the syndicates were also detained.
