Bolgatanga, Ghana – Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has asserted his superior experience in the governance of Ghana among the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential primary contenders.
During a rally in Bolgatanga as part of his nationwide campaign tour, Dr Bawumia emphasized his extensive experience, citing his tenure as Vice President, which he had held twice, and his accomplished record of achievements.
Addressing a gathering of NPP delegates, supporters, and party officials, the Vice President noted that he was the only candidate among the four contesting for the NPP's flagbearer position with practical experience in Presidential elections in Ghana.
He mentioned his role as the running mate in the 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 elections, demonstrating a deep understanding of election campaigns over the past 16 years.
Dr Bawumia highlighted his ability to win elections, referring to the victories in 2016 and 2020 alongside President Nana Akufo-Addo.
He conveyed his confidence in leading the NPP to victory in the 2024 general election if nominated as the flagbearer.
He also mentioned the perception of his candidacy by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stating, “It is me that the NDC fears more than anybody else. The rest of the contestants, the NDC doesn't mind them at all.”
In the spirit of party unity, Dr Bawumia stressed that the internal contest for the NPP's flagbearer position should be devoid of insults.
He emphasized the importance of party cohesion for a successful 2024 election.
Dr. Bawumia's rally served as the climax of his nationwide campaign tour, where he sought support from the NPP delegates and members to lead the party as its flagbearer.
His campaign highlighted his governance experience, election-winning capabilities, and appeal to the NPP's base.
The NPP's Presidential Primary is scheduled for November 4, 2023, where the party will select its flagbearer for the 2024 general election.
