Former Auditor-General and member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Daniel Domelevo, has dismissed allegations that the committee’s work amounts to a witch-hunt, stating that any unfounded claims will not hold up in court.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, February 11, Domelevo emphasized that the ORAL report does not serve as a final judgment but is based on evidence gathered. He urged anyone who feels wrongly accused to seek legal redress.
“If you think that we’ve damaged your reputation, you can go to court,” he told host Bernard Avle.
Meanwhile, private legal practitioner and former Berekum MP, Captain (Rtd.) Nkrabea Effah Dartey, has raised concerns about the legal basis of the report. Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, February 10, he argued that the ORAL report cannot be used as grounds for prosecution but may serve as a guide for further inquiries.
Domelevo, however, clarified that ORAL’s mandate does not include conducting investigations. Instead, the report is based on complaints received and documented for further action.
The ORAL committee, which presented its report to President John Dramani Mahama on February 10, has recorded a total of 2,417 complaints from individuals and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). The team received 1,493 calls through its toll-free line and 924 emails, all of which have been preserved for verification.
Following the report’s submission, President Mahama directed Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine to conduct immediate investigations into the cases outlined.
