Ghana Police Service extends criminal clearance services to Regional Police Commands

In a move aimed at enhancing the delivery of policing services and improving accessibility for the public, the Ghana Police Service has decentralized its criminal clearance services across all regional police commands in the country. This step marks the beginning of a comprehensive automation process to streamline the service.

Starting from Monday, May 22, 2023, individuals seeking criminal clearance can now avail themselves of this service at any of the 25 police regions nationwide. Previously, all criminal background checks were exclusively conducted at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra, necessitating individuals and organizations to travel to the capital solely for this purpose.

To alleviate this burden, the criminal clearance service has been extended to all 25 police regions, enabling individuals to access the service without the need to travel to Accra. The decentralization ensures that individuals across the country can conveniently obtain criminal clearance from their respective regions.

Regional Commands

The Ghana Police Service currently operates 25 Police Regional Commands, each serving as a point of access for the criminal clearance service. The following table outlines the regional commands and their corresponding locations:
