Ghana hosts spectacular opening ceremony for the 13th African Games

Ghana has made history with a vibrant and impressive display of its rich cultural heritage during the opening ceremony of the 13th at the Sports Stadium.

The ceremony, which lasted almost an hour, captivated audiences with fireworks, exhibitions of various African costumes, and dynamic dance performances. The newly constructed stadium served as the perfect venue for the festivities, drawing an impressive global viewership of over 2.2 billion.

The launch of the games featured the customary parade of athletes representing 53 countries participating in this grand continental sporting event. Renowned artists such as , Pat Thomas, Ebo Taylor, 's Kamo Mphela, and King Promise added to the excitement with breathtaking performances, delighting fans in attendance.

In his inaugural address, President Nana Addo Dankwa extended a warm welcome to all participating countries and wished them success. He encouraged participants to utilize the games as a platform to showcase Africa's abundant talents.

Mr. Mousse Fati Mahamat, Chairperson of the Commission, lauded the Government of Ghana for its substantial investments in sporting facilities and infrastructure to host the games. He emphasized the transformative power of sports, highlighting its ability to inspire and unite people across different backgrounds.

Mahamat urged athletes and officials to embody the values of fair play, equity, discipline, inclusion, tolerance, and teamwork, underscoring the importance of these principles in ensuring the success of the event.

The 13th African Games feature the participation of over 6,000 athletes from 53 countries competing in 29 disciplines, including arm wrestling, basketball, , chess, football, volleyball, handball, athletics, table tennis, tennis, badminton, among others.
